It’s that time of year again when we share the AKC top breeds of the year! This is one of our favorite blogs each year because we love dogs of all shapes and sizes & sharing them with you!

For the second year in a row, the French Bulldog is the most popular breed of 2023. The top five also mirror the 2022 results including in order from 2-5 Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, and Poodle these breeds have been popular for decades!

There were some ranking changes in the bottom half of the top 10 with the Dachshund making the biggest leap from #9 in 2022 to the #6 spot in 2023. The biggest jump this year belongs to the Finnish Lapphund breed which leaped 32 spots from #167 to #135.

The Bracco Italiano was recognized in July of 2022 making their debut in 2023 at #152. .In January 2024 the Lancashire Heeler was the newest breed recognized by the AKC.
