Easy Tricks to Teach Your Dog
Teaching your dog tricks and commands is an important and fun part of the training process for your canine companion.
- Fetch- Choose a toy or ball your dog loves, start with very short throws when your dog picks up the toy say bring it here in a happy voice, sometimes a little clap of the hands helps encourage them to return. When they bring the toy back reward them with praise. Increase the distance each time!
- Sit– Grab a few treats & stand in front of your dog when they sit say yes and give them a treat. Step back and wait for them to sit then offer a treat immediately. Finally, begin to say sit as he does.
- Leave it- After fetching teach them to “leave it” When the dog returns make sure to say leave it and only rethrow the toy once they release it to you.
- Spin– Put a treat by your dog’s nose and slowly move to the side your dog will follow the treat once they finish a rotation say spin and give them the reward. After a few practices, your dog will spin on command.
- Laydown– Hold a treat closed in your hand ask your dog to sit then slowly lower the treat down from the muzzle to the floor open your hand while saying lay down, and offer a treat when the dog lays practice a few rotations each time until your dog responds on command.
